In-house service capabilities garner additional contracts for Sprint Pipeline
A major gas storage company initially contracted Sprint Pipeline Services LP (Sprint Pipeline) to build and install multiple metering facilities along the distribution system from El Campo, Texas to Bay City, Texas. The header system includes 41.72 miles of looped bi-directional pipeline and is connected to ten interstate and intrastate pipeline systems. Sprint Pipeline conducted on-site fabrication, excavation and site preparation, building roads into the facilities, sandblasting, painting, final grading, finish rock, and fencing.
During the course of the project it was noted that Sprint Pipeline provided most of the company’s services in house, unlike other contractors involved with the project. Most others used subcontract service providers. As a result of this finding, Sprint Pipeline was awarded the final phase of the Gas Handling Facility.
Sprint Pipeline handled the overall project management and was in charge of completing piping, electrical, and civil construction for the injection phase of the project in a very limited time frame. Sprint Pipeline accomplished the work quickly by working 24 hours per day, seven days a week until the critical portion of the work was complete. The company was able to meet their early injection goal with several days to spare.
Sprint Pipeline was also awarded the remaining metering facilities as a result of the company’s ability to meet deadlines and schedules. This was a direct result of having all additional services, such as material procurement, Hydro-vac Excavation, Hydro-Testing, Torque Services, in house and close alliances with technical companies who provide the instrumentation and electrical construction services required for these types of projects.
Today, the facilities are fully operational and Sprint Pipeline is continuing to work closely with the company’s operations and maintenance personnel. Sprint Pipeline provides daily services such as road maintenance, weed control, and other various services required by the DOT and the Texas Rail Road Commission.
